Grimes man Michael Remus dies in crash with cement truck near Dallas Center

A man died in a crash with a cement truck near Dallas Center on Monday morning.

Responders with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services and the Dallas Center Fire Department went to the scene of a vehicle accident around 9:46 a.m. in the 28000 block of Highway 44, east of Dallas Center, according to a news release.

Emergency responders found a man who was not breathing, began CPR and attempted to use an automated external defibrillator. Michael Remus, 69, of Grimes, died at the scene.

Responders transported a passenger in Remus' vehicle for medical care. The extent of that person's injuries are unknown at the time.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash. The initial investigation showed that a cement mixer truck rear-ended Remus' vehicle, the news release said.

The driver of the cement truck was uninjured, according to the release.

Highway 44 was closed for several hours during the investigation.
